Social Compact Detroit Drilldown Study: Building on the strong findings from Downtown Detroit In Focus, which highlighted exciting development activity and renewed energy around Detroit’s downtown core, Social Compact,in partnership with the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC), expanded its analysis citywide in order to capture additional hidden strengths and opportunities that exist in Detroit’s many communities. As part of Mayor Kilpatrick’s forward-thinking approach to information-led development, Social Compact and DEGC will use the Detroit DrillDown findings to help guide an appropriate retail attraction strategy for continued revitalization of the city’s commercial corridors.

Educational Forums: The Community Foundation is hosting several forums to provide timely research and practical information on neighborhood revitalization to create positive change in the region. These forums focus on strategies for improving communities and share lessons from similar efforts in other areas.

Communities throughout southeast Michigan are seeking new ways to thrive in a changing and challenging economy. This is especially true in neighborhoods facing disinvestment and a loss of population. Featuring presentations by two national experts on neighborhood revitalization, this forum explored how communtiy leaders across the United States are attempting to stabilize, renew and transform neighborhoods. Special attention was given to the use of catalytic projects and partnerships, and leveraging large-scale investments. Practical approaches and lessons learned were highlighted.
