For Donors

Increasing Regional Philanthropy is about building current and future charitable resources to strengthen and enhance the quality of life in southeast Michigan. To accomplish this, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan is offering new, enhanced and expanded services to engage individuals, families, businesses, foundations and nonprofit organizations throughout the region in building our region's charitable resources. In addition, the Community Foundation is offering a matching gift opportunity to donors to increase the value of their gifts to endowment.

Our Services

The Community Foundation offers donors and their professional advisers a simple, flexible and highly personal approach to giving that is tailored to individual needs.

Giving expertise. We provide expert giving assistance, helping you create a giving solution that fits your financial circumstances and reflects your specific values and goals. We offer you:

  • The ability to stay personally involved in recommending uses for your gift
  • The opportunity to support one or more causes with a single gift
  • A range of giving options-from outright donations to planned gifts
  • A vehicle for gifting a variety of assets-from cash and marketable securities to real estate, closely held business instruments, and more
  • A choice of giving products that maximize your tax benefits
  • Ways to preserve your family or private foundation assets for future generations
  • Experience helping businesses build community connections and create a local legacy of giving

Permanent endowment. We provide a proven endowment program, helping you support your personal charitable interests forever. You can:

  • Contribute to any one of our many endowment funds
  • Establish a new endowment fund to support causes or organizations of your choice
  • Create a personal legacy through a named fund, or give anonymously
  • Count on professional investment management of your endowed assets, to maximize fund growth and provide an ever-larger source of support for your favorite causes
  • Expect us to preserve donor intent, so your gift will always support the causes you care about most

Community impact. We provide an effective vehicle for community investments, directing your gift to the organizations and programs that will do the greatest good. We can help you:

  • Craft a giving program that reflects your unique giving goals
  • Examine current grant opportunities and select investments that will provide a high rate of return
  • Assess the organizations that might receive your funds to ensure good stewardship of your charitable investments

Ongoing education. We provide information and professional services that help you learn more about critical social issues and effective giving practices, making you a more knowledgeable philanthropist. We offer:

  • Personal, one-on-one consultation, anytime you need assistance
  • Educational workshops and forums on key regional and national issues
  • Visits and connections with our region's most innovative and productive nonprofit organizations
  • Online resources, available 24 hours a day, for donors as well as their advisers and nonprofit organizations
  • Publications, including our newsletter, that highlight important topics related to community, philanthropy and the nonprofit sector

Donor Matching Opportunities

For a limited time, the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan is offering donors the opportunity to receive a $1 for $2 match on all new gifts and, in some cases, irrevocable pledges, of $1,000 or more to any Community Foundation endowment. Certain maximums and gift eligibility requirements apply.
